Sciatica

Sciatica Relief at Indian Harbor Chiropractic in Greenwich

man clutching his leg from sciatica pain

Sciatica refers to a sciatic nerve pain running along the lower spine. This condition is somewhat common, with at least 3 million U.S. cases reported each year. Sciatica is just one of many medical conditions that Indian Harbor Chiropractic in Greenwich treats.

Common Symptoms of Sciatica

Because sciatica affects the nerves near the lumbar spine, paresthesia-like symptoms are fairly common. Sciatica patients can expect symptoms like spinal weakness, lower back pain, numbness, tingling, and a burning "pins and needles" sensation. The pain might radiate along the legs since the sciatic nerve also covers the them.

How Sciatica Develops

Sciatica is most commonly caused by a spinal disc herniation pressing on the lumbar or sacral nerve roots. The pressure of the disc herniation leads to damage, inflammation, and pain in nearby tissue. Sciatica can also be caused by spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome, bone spurs, or radiculopathy. This condition is more prevalent among people in their 40s and 50s. Men are at a higher risk of developing sciatica than women.

Knowing the underlying cause of sciatica will help determine a treatment plan.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Surgery or medication isn't necessarily required for a condition like this. Sciatica can be managed with the proper chiropractic care. A certified chiropractor will investigate, diagnose, and treat a case of sciatica. Spinal manipulation is a chiropractic method that has been able to address sciatica. Physical therapy and corrective exercise may also aid in recovery.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "Everyone in our 5-member family looks forward to appointments with Dr. Gailes. She is simply the best! She is a highly skilled and knowledgeable chiropractor who helps us feel better and who also teaches us different ways in which we can help ourselves and improve our own well-being. She is also one of the nicest people and we all think of her as a wonderful friend. We feel extremely fortunate to know her and have her in our Greenwich community."

  • "Dr Gailes was thorough, patient and truly interested in solving for the root cause of my pain (desk ergonomics, sleeping pillow, lumbar support, etc). I’ve always been reluctant to go to a chiropractor- cracking and popping scared me! I was very pleasantly surprised at the approach- warm compress, electro stimulation and manual manipulation. Was a relaxing experience and I felt a difference! Am looking forward to returning for more relief! Thank you Dr Gailes!"

  • "I'm commercial photographer and carry a lot of gear for the past 30 years. I met Dr. Gailes at a event and she convinced me I should try a treatment. I always had a my doubts about chiropractors, but she had a sweet manor and decided to give it a try. Wow, was I blown away how just one treatment gave me relief after years of abuse to my body. Very professional staff and office environment. I also have played sports and study martial arts for years. So you sports guys take notice, and let her do her magic!"
